What is Region 5 Service?
There are ten regions in Overeaters Anonymous and they each
serve specific geographic areas. Region 5 consists of Northern Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Southern Ontario, Canada and Wisconsin. When an OA says
that they are doing ‘service at the regional level’, it means that they are
on the Regional Board – in Region 5 there is a Chair, a Vice Chair, a
Treasurer and a Secretary; or, it means they serve on one of 8 standing
committees: Finance, Bylaws, Newsletter, Intergroup Outreach, Public
Information, Professional Information Outreach, 12th Step Within
or Convention. There is a Nominating Committee that seeks out qualified
nominees for the Board positions. Board members are elected to two-year terms
in November. Click on the links below to learn more about each committee.
Any OA can participate in these committees if they are willing to attend a
regional assembly. Assemblies are held the second weekend of the months of
March, July and November. See the Region 5 Business Page for more details. Some
Assembly attendees are voting delegates, elected to attend assembly by their
groups. Many attendees are simply guests who are interested in strengthening
their recovery by lending their time and talents to these committees that
serve the still suffering compulsive overeater.
