1. Plan of eating Guidelines for what to eat, how much, and how often, help us abstain from compulsive overeating.
2. Sponsor Sponsors are OAs who are living the twelve steps to the best of their ability and are willing to share their experience, strength, and hope with other members. Find one who has what you want!
3. Meetings Meetings give members a chance to identify and confirm our common problem and share the gifts we receive through this program.
4. Telephone The telephone offers a break from the isolation that is a part of compulsive overeating. We learn to reach out and ask for help while extending ourselves to others.

5. Writing Writing is a great tool in working the twelve steps. Putting our thoughts on paper helps us better understand our feelings.
6. Literature Reading OA approved literature reinforces how to the twelve steps and offers comfort that we are not alone and there is a solution.
7. Anonymity Anonymity protects us from gossip and allows us to express ourselves freely in an atmosphere of equality.
8. Service The primary purpose of OA is to carry the message to still suffering compulsive overeaters. This takes many forms, from putting up chairs after the meeting to calling someone who may be struggling.
