What Is the Madison Area Intergroup?

OA is a global fellowship, divided by our World Service Office into ten regions. Wisconsin is part of Region V, which also includes Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Northern Illinois and southern Ontario. Madison Area Intergroup is the service body of the Madison area OA fellowship, providing a link between the individual meetings and the regional and world service structures.

Each OA meeting in the Madison area is eligible (and encouraged) to send a group rep, selected by group conscience, to intergroup meetings. Group reps bring their groups' concerns to intergroup meetings. They also get firsthand information about intergroup's projects, Region V's Assemblies (assemblies are weekend-long combination mini-conventions and business meetings), and our World Service Office news to share with their groups.

Intergroup reps are all volunteers who donate time to a variety of activities. Not only is Intergroup the "hub" between the individual groups and Overeaters Anonymous' Region V and our World Service Office, but it provides service opportunities for recovering OAs. For instance, IG members help with the Easy Does It newsletter (EDI), they get our contact information in local print media, they maintain the meeting list, and pay our phone bill, etc. There are still service positions open for 2010. If you would like to learn about available service opportunities please email us and someone will contact you.

We do provide support for start-up meetings! IG will provide OA's start-up kit as a gift. If the meeting has a different focus, will spend same amount on other items. In addition to the start-up kit also get brochure for men. Person wanting to get support MUST come to IG before ordering any materials. If the meeting closes, all materials should be returned to IG.

The terms of intergroup positions begin in January and end in December. The December intergroup meeting is traditionally used to to vote in the new members. MAIG service positions here

Intergroup meets the first Thursday of every month at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 110 N Whitney Way, Madison, Wisconsin 53705 at 6:15p.m. We always end on time because we always attend the OA speaker meeting at Mt Olive which begins PROMPTLY at 7:30 pm!
